The reason for having your roof cleaned and coated or painted is a simple one, over the years the british weather breaks down the original seal or coating on your roof tiles, this then opens up the pores on your tiles allowing rain water to settle, in the winter months when the air is damp the moisture in the tiles stays where it is allowing moss and algae to form, once moss has taken hold it spreads quite quickly, covering a large area of your roof, especially north facing roofs.
